How were you Introduced to CrossFit & How long have you been doing CrossFit?

A few years ago, some very dear friends of mine were over for dinner, and they kept going on and on about this new gym they joined in Burlington. They seemed to be convinced that CrossFit would be up my alley, so I gave it a try.  I’ve been a member in good standing now for 4 years.

What Made You Decide to Join RCFEW?

One evening after work, I paid a little visit to RCFEW and was immediately taken aback by how different the environment looked compared to what one might typically expect from a gym. I was instantly impressed by the evident sense of camaraderie between the members, as well as by how welcoming they were towards this newbie who hadn’t set foot in a gym for God knows how long.

Favourite Lifts/ WOD’s?

Steve Cristini says I’ve been rockin’ the squat snatch lately, so I guess it qualifies as my current favorite. Saturday morning Lite classes with Oscar are always a treat as well.  The perfect amount of spice to get the weekend started on a positive note.

3 Things You Would Definitely Find in my Fridge…

Coke Zero, Milk for my coffee, and grilled chicken breasts or thighs

Favourite Place to Eat:

Due to my South American background, I’m a sucker for any restaurant that specializes in Argentinean asado.  But I also love authentic Italian stone-baked pizzerias and the occasional Mexican taqueria

Proudest Accomplishments:

A CrossFit-related accomplishment would most definitely be a tie between the rope climb and the handstand push-up.  These were two things I was convinced I would perpetually suck at.  Not anymore.  Being a proud dad to two amazing and beautiful boys would definitely stand as my proudest personal accomplishment.  Oh, and I did alright with Elita too.

Something People Wouldn’t Know About Me:

I’m a pretty good karaoke singer.  When I was in Jamaica a few years back, our resort had a little competition for the patrons.  I proudly came in 2nd place with a pretty decent rendition of a John Lennon song.  But alas, I lost to a girl who sounded like Adele.  Oh well.

Biggest Struggle in Life?

I’m intensely reserved and slightly timid, so it sometimes gets in the way of me being more open and inviting with people.  I’m not much of a conversation starter, so it wouldn’t surprise me if people mistake me for a snob.  Trust me, I’m not.  I just very easily clam up and choose to hide in my shell a lot.  Alcohol helps (lol!).

Do You Have a Mentor, or Someone You Look Up To? If So Who?

My mom is someone I’ve always looked up to as a kid.  It couldn’t have been easy for her to single-handedly raise a couple of knuckleheads like my brother and I while paying the bills and putting food on the table.  God bless anyone who takes on life’s challenges head on while maintaining their dignity and sense of self worth.

Who Inspires You?

I’m inspired mainly by people who defy odds and challenge themselves to be better versions of themselves.  That could very well describe the many wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting at RCFEW.  My wife Elita deserves an honorable mention as well.

What Music I Like Listening to While Working Out:

I tend to lean towards a mixture of Classic rock, alternative, metal, and 90’s Hip Hop.  Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Tool, Rage Against The Machine…I could go on and on.

Anything Else You Would Like To Say (Open Comments):

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the coaches for their invaluable input and support throughout my progress so far.  Thanks to the RCFEW family for helping me get into the best shape of my life.  No excuses!
