How were you introduced to Cross Fit & How long have you been doing CrossFit?

My friend Edward introduced me to CrossFit in mid April 2017. I had no idea that CFM existed even though I was only a few minutes drive away from the gym. It’s been just over a year since I’ve been doing CrossFit.

What made you decide to join CrossFit Markham?

I had zero experience in anything fitness/gym related. I signed up to gyms multiple times only to find myself not going at all due to intimidation, being overall self conscious about myself, and pretty much not knowing where to begin. Last year, I turned 25 and felt that these are the years I should be feeling the best I could physically, and this was definitely not the case. I finally decided to try CrossFit and was hooked ever since.

Favourite Lifts/ Wods?

Favourite lift would be the snatch because of its technicality, difficulty, and overall sense of accomplishment once you get under that bar and get up successfully. Favourite WOD would be anything involving dubs!

3 Things you would definitely find in my fridge…

Eggs, Greek yogurt, sliced ham/chicken breast

Favourite Place to Eat:

Any good AYCE Sushi or AYCE KBBQ spot.

 Proudest Accomplishments:

Most recently becoming an uncle to an adorable niece!

Something People Wouldn’t Know About Me:

I was born in the Middle East. (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to be exact)

Biggest Struggle in Life?

I am a very quiet and timid person, so stepping out of my comfort zone can be a huge struggle.

Do You Have a Mentor, or Someone You Look Up To? If So Who?

I would say my parents. Both didn’t have much when growing up but they worked hard to be able to get to where they are today and provide for my siblings and I.

 Who Inspires You?

Essentially anyone who works hard, has a big drive, and never gives up in the face of adversity.

What Music I like Listening to While Working Out:

Anything with a good beat that compliments the pace of the workout!

Thank you again CFM! Thanks to coach Oscar who was my coach for my first class and who has been always supportive and pushing me beyond my limits each workout. Thanks to coach Ben who constantly sees potential in me when I never do and allows me to reach new goals. Thanks to coach Alex and Steve for always helping me adjust my form, which has helped tremendously in achieving heavier lifts. And to coach Anna, who always makes the morning workouts fun and enjoyable (especially the warmups)!

 CrossFit still feels new to me and I find myself always learning each class. It has helped me both physically and mentally in this past year. Once again I want to say thank you to all CFM staff for welcoming me with open arms and also to the CFM members who have shown that this place is a community of people all helping each achieve their goals no matter how big or small!
