How were you introduced to CrossFit & How long have you been doing CrossFit? 

“I don’t remember how I was introduced to CrossFit, but I have been a member at CFM since August 2015”

What made you decide to join CFM?

“At first it was because it was close to my house; I have stayed because of the amazing coaches and the atmosphere!”

Favourite Lifts/ WODs?

“Probably backsquats or deadlifts”

3 Things you would definitely find in my fridge…

“Apples, Sparkling Water and Beer”

Favourite place to eat

“OMG you really expect me to pick one?!?!”

Proudest Accomplishments:

“Graduating University with 2 degrees and a specialist certificate and finding a teaching position right out of teachers college. Nobody in my family had attended college or university before me, so accomplishing that was kind of cool.”

Something people wouldn’t know about me:

“I’m a pyro. I love building fires – the bigger the better! ”

Biggest struggle in life?

“I have struggled with depression for years. Around 10 years ago I was diagnosed with depression, OCD and borderline personality disorder. For the longest time I was in denial about my issues and then finally talked to my doctor about it. Even after being diagnosed, I was ashamed of who I was. The longer I have been dealing with it the more I have realized that it is part of who I am and is what makes me, me. I’m now a firm believer that the only way to break down the stigma and negativity towards mental health issues is to talk about them. I have no issues opening up about what I have been through; if I can help at least one person going through the same thing by telling my story, then it’s worth it. ”

Do you have a mentor, or someone you look up to? If so who?

“This is going to sound totally cliché, but my parents are amazing. They instilled a hard work ethic in my brother and I from the time we were very young and gave us the opportunity to try anything and everything. My dad made so many sacrifices working as a long haul truck driver so that my brother and I could participate in activities such as hockey and figure skating and I will be forever grateful for that. My mom is literally the calmest person I know (complete opposite of me) and I really hope that one day her ability to remain calm in all situations rubs off on me.”

What music I like listening to while working out:

“Anything that is upbeat or kind of angry sounding!”
