How were you introduced to Cross Fit & How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Sabrina: I was looking for a new fitness challenge, did some research and really wanted to try CrossFit, actually even years before I actually did. Working out on my own wasn’t as satisfying and I needed a change. I’ve been doing Crossfit since Sept 2017.

Fernando: My general interest in fitness sparked my curiosity to explore crossfit. My interest really took off when I attended the crossfit east regionals at the international centre in Toronto back in 2014. I have been doing Crossfit for 1 and a half years.

What Made you Decide to Join CFEW ?

Sabrina: I saw an ad on Facebook for a 2 month special so Fernando and I thought it was the perfect time to try it out- little did I know we’d be hooked!

Fernando: I was ready to take my fitness training to another level where Sabrina discovered one of the CFEW promotions and pulled the trigger.

Favourite Lifts/ WODs?

Sabrina: Favorite lift is the split jerk. I like any WODs with burpees or box jumps!

Fernando: Barbell Squat, Toes to bar, Push ups, dips, and as much as it hurts, I like doing Fran.

Sabrina: Almond butter, Cheese & BerriesFernando: Peanut Butter, Red Leaf Lettuce, Cheese

Favourite Place to Eat:

Sabrina: Stone Oven Pizza!

Fernando: Mother-in-laws place, Fresh Restaurant, Greek Restaurants, Sushi bars

Proudest Accomplishments:

Sabrina: Getting through University on a No Frills income, haha!

Fernando: In my teenage years, I didn’t have much direction in life and as a consequence I almost failed high school. I was able to realize what I valued in life and got myself back on track by eventually being able to establish the start of rewarding career.

Something People Wouldn’t Know About Me:

Sabrina: I’m super type A- mainly really organized and concerned with time- I hate being late!

Fernando: I’ve always wanted to learn how to do a front flip and I am an undercover nerd who collects comic books.

Biggest Struggle in Life?

Sabrina: Learning how to live in the moment and not worry so much about the future and about things that I can’t control.

Fernando: Apparently, I have the overhead mobility of a T Rex.

Do you Have a Mentor, or Someone You Look up to? If so who?

Sabrina: My parents. They immigrated to Canada on their own, built a family, and hustled to make it- mostly for us. Their work ethic is inspiring and has definitely shaped who I am.

Fernando: I would have to say failure is my primary mentor. Because of it, I was able to decide who I wanted to be and how I wanted to live my life. I learned how to be patient, hardworking, and how to persevere.

Who Inspires You?

Sabrina: Anyone who works hard to achieve what they have, no matter what it may be. There is nothing more inspiring than watching someone put time, effort, and their whole heart into their goals.

Fernando: Bruce Lee. He took his training very seriously and made it a way of life. He used his training as a means for self-discovery and self-expression.

What Goals are You Working Towards?

Sabrina: Getting back to working out regularly again after having my first baby last month, haha! Then I can plan for more…really hoping to work towards getting handstand pushups!

Fernando: Improving my overhead mobility, and increasing cardiovascular endurance.

What Music I like Listening to While Working Out:

Sabrina: Old school hip hop, EDM, anything upbeat really.

Fernando: EDM, 90s Rock, Euro, Rap, you name it.

Anything Else you Would Like to Say (Open Comments):

Sabrina: I really can’t imagine working out anywhere else now! CrossFit has challenged me mentally and physically and it is something that has become such a integral part of my well-being. Thank you to all the coaches and members at CFEW, it truly has become a second home!

Fernando:  My words to live by: Consistency, intensity, determination and balance. Thank you to all of my comrades in class who are always out to help one another. I cant forget to thank the Cristini Athletics team who created a nurturing and positive environment for all of us to enjoy on our fitness journeys.
